WP-Mail 0.312.13 |

New Version
I meant to post this last night - but here you go!

  • Cleaned up the code some more - renamed some functions, broke some stuff down. The main loop is now readable even if you can’t program.
  • Props out to Jay Talbot - He submitted code to make it easier to add new authorized emails and helped with testing
  • Posting to multiple categories from a single post is now supported - look at the features page for how it works
  • Bittercrash suggessted a new feature I added - you can now just put the first part of a category name to post to it. If I put [Wor] in my subject line it would post to this cateogyr “Word Press Modifications” - which should make it easier to moblog into specific categories
  • Bittercrash also helped trouble shoot timing issues. I’m hoping this is now completely fixed.
  • I was able to replicate the application/stream problem with a jpg. This should now be fixed.

This works with WP 1.5.1.3.

As always if you have problems follow the instructions and I’ll do what I can. If you have feature ideas send them in. I won’t promise that I’ll do it - but I definitly never will if you don’t suggest it.

  1. Jay Talbot’s Ramblings » Wow! I’ve got code in the wild again….:

[...] As my oldest readers know, I switched from my own blogging software to WordPress. Well, I found something worthy of my time to help out on. There’s a heavily miodified, if not entirely new, version of wp-mail.php maintained by Dirk Elmendorf, which gives you the ability to make entries over email. This version is much more secure than the original and can support unlimited authorized email addresses. It’s clean, very intuitive, and packs a ton of nice little features. I’ve got a couple fo more ideas on how to make it even better. Scarey huh? lol! [...]

Hi, thanks for the great updates. The jpg’s from Outlook are arrivng fine now. As for the category problem. It seems to be related to another plugin I had. I was using Google Sitemaps 2.12 Arne Brachhold .

Everytime I ran the wp-email, I received this message at the end:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: get_home_path() in /home/public_html/blog/wp-content/plugins/sitemap.php on line 402

I always thought it was just causing a problem with sitemap but never thought it could be blocking some variable from arriving with wp-email. Since deactivating this plugin my categories are always correctly shown as soon as the email is processed.

Thanks again for this great update!

    I meant wp-mail :)

You know I actually saw a comment about that on another site. What does the google site path thing do?

  5. shawn:

Hello, the main site is http://www.arnebrachhold.de/2005/06/05/google-sitemaps-generator-v2-final

and with Google at http://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/login. Basically you can communicate automatically to Google and make Google sitemap for your sitemap every time there is a new post or specific changes.

New versions of the sitemap out, supposedly fixes any problems.
    New in Version 2.6 (2005-07-04):

    * Added support to store the files at a custom location
    * Changed the home URL to have a slash at the end
    * Fixed errors with wp-mail
    * Added support for other plugins to add content to the sitemap

  8. HeadGeek:

Cool - I’m going to have to check that out at some point
