Ok this showed up in my mail box - at some point I added it to the netflix queue.
I’m not sure if it was because it was by Wes Craven (Who has made enough stinkers he is definitly not on my always watch list), because it has Christina Ricci in it (who I seem to like less and less as she gets older), or because it has Jesse Eisenberg (Who I thought was in freeks and geeks but it turns out - he was in “Get Real” and Rodger Dodger - both of which I really liked.
I’m guessing it was the last one.
Well whatever the reason - I can tell you right now it was a mistake. I don’t know what I was thinking. This is a werewolf movie. And as far as I can tell the best werewolf movie ever made was Teen -Wolf with a close second being American Werewolf In London
The second one had great special effects and some horribly gruesome scenes in it - but the honest truth is that I would actually watch Teen Wolf again - which in my book means it is a better film.
Anyway - this movie has a boat load of cameos - Scott Baio being my favorite ( I was so disappointed he didn’t turn out to be a werewolf).
I wish I could explain why this movie was sooo bad. Maybe the cgi effects just didn’t seem real enough. Maybe the limited number of characters meant that it was super easy to figure out who the good/bad guys were. Maybe it was because really there isn’t much suspense to watching a giant wolf gnaw on some women in various states of undress.
The thing that really struck me was how much this movie was like so many before it. I think that was really the bad part. I mean this was an opportunity to redo the entire werewolf genre - in the end they just made the same film they’ve made a hundred times. Where is the Wes Craven that made scream?
Bottom Line: Just remember that it will be you that is “Cursed” if you allow yourself or anyone you know to see this film.
