Oh Alyson Hannigan - why did you do this? Was it the money? Was it your chance to see if you could be the “Star”? I loved you as Willow in Buffy the TV show. You are great in “How I Met Your Mother” ( Which is probably my favorite show of the season).
Maybe she’s going thru a phase (Tat Pics - is it a good sign when you show up on Hanzi Smatter? I think not!) Maybe that’s it. Maybe she had a contract obligation and that is why she was in this. I have no idea.
All I can tell you is that I’m ashamed that I actually paid to go see this movie. First of all - the film makers fell into that simple trap - they worked so hard at referencing other movies and pop culture that they never took two seconds to make any story of their own. Scream did a fantasic job of both making a movie and making references. This film just made references.
Which brings us to the second thing - they ended up picking such sucky films - I hadn’t even seen most of them. There was a scene where the loving couple are talking to a therapist. I have no idea where that is from. If you are going to spend time making a reference you should make them pretty popular ones. (I mean why the hell would you make a refence to BumFight.com ?)
The sad part is that I went in with what I thought were incredibly low expectations. Wow - I had no idea that you could release a film this terrible with a straight face. I mean I know that Feb & Sept are generally the months the studios dump their worst trash out in the theaters just to get it out there - but - there should be a law against this.
I was going to say that this film was going to be such a bomb that it would end up hurting her career - which is a shame - because as I said I like her a lot. I got corrected on that by Box Office Mojo. Apparently they spent $20mil to make it - and have already taken in $33mil. Now that is probably only break even once you fold in marketing - but wow! The most amazing part is they did almost $20 mil on the opening weekend (Which they probably could have done better if they had released it the weekend before Valentine’s Day instead of the weekend after).
You know it’s things like that this that explain why people are staying out of the theaters. I mean - I at least had some idea what I was getting into - I have to believe a lot of people left the film thinking they were cheated…
Bottom Line: It is NOT FUNNY! If you want to see Eddie Griggin spit out another man’s chest hair - go ahead - but other wise - for the love of all things great an small - avoid this even on latenight television.
