The Pain That Is RSS

Ok so I’m reading through my big backlog of blog entries while I wait for 197,752 IP Addresses to process…

I start reading about how to detect if an element has scrolled onto the screen. This is actually pretty useful stuff - if you need to learn about custom events via YUI (Which you may not - but I happen to need that exact sort of thing)

Then I read the next article in the same blog - and it is this big personal explanation that the author of the blog is getting a divorce. It is kind of a big announcement to his friends - and I suppose readers. He’s met someone - it’s a strange thing to see in the middle of a heck of a lot of javascript.

It looks like he posted it and then deleted it….But of course it is still in the RSS cache at google so here I am - way after the fact - way after he changed his mind and took it down - reading it.

Guess it is just another reminder that if you are going to post a big thing about your soon to be ex-wife and your soon to be new girlfriend - hitting delete in your blog just isn’t going to cut it….

Late To The Party

So a friend posts a link to a terrible ad for a job fair. At the end he posts a custom soundboard (Soundboard Definition) I’d never heard the term before, but it turns out there are a lot of them out there - so now for your amusement -

Naploean Dynamite

Dave Chapell

Darth Vader

For some reason I think I’m going to end up getting some very strange voicemails as a result of this post…

Ruby-prof

looks like they’ve overhauled the ruby profiler. There is even a short guide to using it to profile Rails code.

Seems like perfect timing since I’ve been struggling lately with some Ruby based scripts that are used to move data around taking forever and a day….
